In 1984 Ghostbusters broke all box-office records to become the highest-grossing comedy of all time to that point, and the most successful comedy film of the 1980s. The film featured an ensemble of Saturday Night Live and Second City comedians who were vaulted to international superstardom as Ghostbusters evolved into a multi-billion-dollar franchise. The film was the first comedy to extensively incorporate special effects, and to successfully blend the comedy, action and horror genres. Ghostbusters writer and co-star Harold Ramis is featured at the National Comedy Center with a display of creative papers and his iconic costume from the film.
